Operations Manager

Lipman Family Farms is currently seeking to hire an Operations Manager at our Gresham, Oregon location. The ideal candidate will have experience within food distribution/agriculture and 3-5 years of experience in an operations management role. This job will require a strong leader with extreme organization, excellent communication, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The Operations Manager is responsible for management of packing, processing, transportation, food safety, employee safety, quality assurance, maintenance, shipping, and receiving. You will be responsible for over-site of roughly 70 employees, with 5-6 direct reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create competitive advantage by reducing process costs, improving quality, increasing efficiencies, and exceeding customer expectations
  • Create and lead culture of continuous improvement by establishing and measuring effectiveness and efficiencies by the way of KPIs and other Lean tools throughout all departments.
  • Interface directly with customers and vendors as needed to support the business
  • Promote and instill a strong quality culture that ensures strong relationships with employees and customers
  • Communicate with all leadership to ensure alignment of operations planning and agreed upon company objectives
  • Effectively builds relationships on trust, open and honest communications improving employee morale and engagement
  • Provide leadership, communication and coaching to direct reports
  • Lead charge in sustainment of culture focused on employee safety, ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulation
  • Lead charge in enforcement of culture of food safety ensuring compliance with all applicable corporate, local, state and federal regulation
  • Ensure proper inspection of machines and equipment resulting in specific operational performance and optimum utilization
  • Ensure competitive packaging cost, and adequate inventory on hand at all times
  • Work closely with transportation manager to maintain competitive transportation cost, providing customers with on-time and in-full deliveries, while abiding to all DOT regulations and fostering a driver friendly culture
  • Continued development or revising of standard operational and working practices Observe workers to ensure compliance with standards
  • Enforce / establish production and quality control standards
  • Consult with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products
  • Develop, analyze, and control expenditures to conform with budgetary requirements
  • Responsible for development of employee training programs
  • Review and approve all invoices related to operations
  • Assist in the resolution of worker grievances
  • Compile, store, and retrieve production data
  • Other projects and duties as assigned

Supervisory Duties

Responsible for the direct supervision of repack manager, processing manager, food safety specialist, maintenance manager, and transportation manager.


  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • 3-5 years of manufacturing/operations experience, In-depth knowledge of food distribution, packing, processing, and transportation
  • Proven track record of strong managerial expertise involving manufacturing based problem solving
  • Experience in LEAN manufacturing preferred with a demonstrated ability to reduce cost and improve efficiency
  • Experience developing and maintaining company records relating to process work flows, recipes, equipment maintenance, USDA, OSHA, FDA, and other regulatory organizations
  • Thorough understanding of HACCP, GFSI programs/audit schemes (SQF)
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, and experience within transportation sector
  • High energy and strong team orientation
  • Prior exposure and use of management information tools such as an ERP
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong business acumen
